Hef & Playboy Announce
Playboy Playmate of the Year 2006
Kara Monaco
and the Glamourcon On-The-Road Team was there

With a PMOY 2006 invitation in hand, we began the 750 mile plane from Seattle and 400 mile car ride from Sacramento to the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills. Quite a long trip but it was worth it!
Because of the large number of attendees, we were first to rendezvous with other guests an hour before the luncheon at the UCLA parking lot. Once there, we had to prove we were really the Glamourcon On-The-Road Team. Satisfied it was really us, they gave us entry to the first shuttle which whisked us the few miles to the Mansion.
The luncheon was held behind the main house in a beautifully appointed tented area. All the tables were adorned in pink with pink rose centerpieces. Since we were one of the first to arrive, we were able to snag a table right up front. Although we wanted to sit at Hef's table, we just couldn't find our names on the table. Must have some sort of mistake... OK, not!
People began to arrive as fast as the fleet of shuttles could drop them off at the front door. We had plenty of time to talk with old friends and meet some new ones. By the time the presentation began, we were told there were between 40 and 50 Playmates in attendance. Five decades of Playmates were represented from Dolores DelMonte to, of course, the current PMOY. Our photos are worth a thousand words so you might be able to give us an accurate Playmate count. We even had time to make acquaintances with some of the birds and animals on the grounds. Where else but at the Mansion can you find Flamingos strolling past Squirrel Monkeys in the middle of Beverly Hills?
The lunch was great -- and open bar, several types of salads, shrimp and swordfish kabobs, melt in your mouth chicken and lots of cookies and petits fours.
Hef and The Girls Next Door arrived and were immediately mobbed by photographers. E!, among a throng of other media outlets, was taping at the event so maybe we will see ourselves on TV (or the cutting room floor) in the near future.
Tiffany Fallon, the outgoing PMOY, along with her new husband, Joe Don Rooney of the country group, Rascal Flatts, sang a parody of the Johnny Cash song "Jackson" to introduce Hef. The crowd loved it. Maybe Tiffany will have a new signing career although she said not to look for the single anytime soon.
Hef gave a very nice introduction to Kara Monaco who magically went from Miss June 2005 to Playmate of the Year 2006. Kara was a bit emotional as she received her check for $100,000 along with the keys to a 2006 Honda CBR1000RR sport motorcycle and a 2007 Dodge Charter SRT8 Super Bee, painted "Detonator Yellow." We also got emotional at the sight of the hundred grand! The car and bike were parked in the front of the building for everyone to see and they were quite a sight!
The presentation ended with press photo opportunities and the traditional group Playmate shot. That shot had just about all the Playmates although a couple didn't quite make it into the photo.
Many of the attendees stayed for a while after the official end of the luncheon and we got an opportunity to catch up with many of the Playmates at a more leisurely pace. All in all, it was a great moment for Kara, her family, friends and fans and a wonderful time for us.
Keep in mind this was the PMOY Announcement and Luncheon and not an evening party. Nonetheless, the Mansion is great anytime of the day. Before you ask, no, we didn't see any nude women frolicing in The Grotto but we did have a chance to explore a lot the grounds. What a place! The best way to describe the setting is to picture an adult mini amusement park complete with castle. No flying elephants but rather a lot of gorgeous women in a beautiful fairy tale setting.
Now Kara, come to Glamourcon. Your fans are waiting!
