Wondercon, one of the first major comic book/pop culture shows of the year, celebrated its 20th anniversary and the Glamourcon On-The-Road Team was on hand in San Francisco at Moscone Center West to check it out. Wow! Did we get an eyeful! More on that later.

WonderCon's history goes back to 1987. As the brainchild of the late John Barrett of Comics and Comix, the first show as known "The Wonderful World of Comics Convention." From its modest beginnings, WonderCon has grown immensely in the last 20 years. It got its biggest push from Comic Con International (the organizers of the San Diego Comic Con) a few years back when they took over operations of the show.

If you need a comic, and we mean most ANY comic, from the Golden, Silver, Plastic or Modern Age, it can be found at this show. Want Anime? It's there. Need a pop culture or comic collectable? You will find things you never dreamed of at WonderCon. Autograph collectors love the pop culture and comic book stars that attend and line up to get that special autograph. You can even talk to representives of Cogswell Polytechnical College; a real, top drawer, fully accredited, college that has programs in digital art, animation and motion pictures.

This year the show has grown 25% larger than last year and now features a second floor suite of programming rooms including a massive 3000 seat room. The programming rooms handle special world premiere movies, speakers, presentations, you name it. If you want to learn about the graphic arts and pop culture, WonderCon has a program for you. One example of a great program was a "Spotlight on Gahan Wilson." Readers of the Glamourcon site know Gahan as a Playboy, New Yorker and National Lampoon cartoonist.

Are you a Munchkin or Heroclix fan? You can play those games in large areas at WonderCon. A representative was even there to demo the Super Munchkin.

Have a portfolio to review? DC Comics, Lucas Licensing and Nickelodeon will take a look at what you have to offer, offer tips and maybe, just maybe, recruit you.

What helps make this show so important is that leading publishers such as DC Comics, Dark Horse Comics, SLG and many others have a large presence at the show. The presence of the industry leaders is always a mark a great show.

Of course, we are Glamourcon so you know where our focus is. We took a trip down Artist's Alley where we met Glamourcon favorites Aria Giovanni, Josie Lee, Justine Joli, Playmates Tiffany Taylor and Lynda Wiesmeier, Cleopatra of the Nile, Linda Tran, Dazza and Chanel Ryan. They were all looking quite radiant and were chatting up a storm with the fans. Of course, since this show allows children to attend, the "naughty bits" on the model's photo were covered but we did sneak a peek under the covers to make sure the "bits" were still there. All of these models came prepared and had a ton, and we mean ton, of photos to sell. What impressed us was the grace the models exhibited by taking the time to chat with each fan - some of which had come from a long way away to meet their special lady.

Resident Glamourcon artist, Walt Davis, was constantly busy drawing the fans. We even spotted Dave from Brick by Brick Design who often is a guest artist at Glamourcon.

WonderCon has something for every one of all ages and interests. Mark your calendars for next year as it the show is certainly worth attending. And, when you see the Glamourcon On-The-Road Team there, flag us down and say hello. Even though we don't have any "naughty bits," we enjoy meeting fans from Glamourcon.
